March’s theme was ‘Time Management’ and we had a very productive month learning different strategies to nip overwhelm right in the bud! As March 8th was also International Women’s Day, we had multiple opportunities to attend events to meet and celebrate women excelling in their fields.

We were joined by 63 participants

100% rated the events 4+ stars  |  80% reported feeling more confident  |  95% reported feeling more inspired

100% said they’d recommend to a friend! (Hint hint, nudge nudge…)

March Monthly Meetup @ The Coterie

March’s monthly meetup saw us back at the gorgeous Coterie with our special guest award winning scientist Amy Chan. The theme of the day was time management, and with Amy currently pursuing her PhD with the Institute of Molecular Biology, she was in a great position to share some of her tips and tricks with us!

As we learned, the full group that joined us that day were all facing different challenges when it came to managing their time and priorities. After the session, everyone came away with some valuable advice and strategies on how to effectively manage their time.[/vc_column_text][mk_image src=”https://girlshapedflames.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/cea-identity-1.png” image_size=”full” align=”center”][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”8720,8721,8722,8723″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1557517347610{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

Zonta International Women’s Day Lunch

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Zonta Brisbane City Heart, part of the Zonta International Group invited Founder Tanya Meessmann and four of the Girl Shaped Flames to be special guests at their exclusive IWD lunch event at the amazing Rydges venue. The girls got the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of Brisbane’s most passionate and active businesswomen as well as even provide the opening Welcome to Country!  Julie Cross, keynote speaker extraordinaire had the audience sway from stitches to tears as she shared her touching life story and the lessons learnt along the way.

We were incredibly humbled that part of the day was dedicated to fundraising to send girls to our extremely exciting July Camp Courage event this year and managed to raise enough funds to provide six full scholarships to girls attending the camp![/vc_column_text][mk_image src=”https://girlshapedflames.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/0.png” image_size=”full” link=”https://girlshapedflames.com/camp-courage” align=”center”][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”8724,8726,8727,8728,8733,8734″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1557517561621{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

IWD (Indoor!) Picnic

Straight after our amazing International Women’s Day lunch with Zonta we scooted over to our favourite venue The Precinct, where we were treated to not only our five originally planned extraordinary women, but we also had two spontaneous special guests join us for the day! The girls received very intimate small group opportunities to speak with an incredible group of women with experience working both domestically and overseas in an international landscape.

// Belinda-Jane Dolan (Europe & Middle East) – CEO Clariti Group

// Adrienne Putelli (experience in UAE) – Human Resource Manager, Hilton Worldwide

// Jacinda Cottee – Pilot for Qantas

// Ana Tonkin – Director and Chief Happiness Officer, Clariti Group

// Jo Dillon (USA) – Head of Development at Screen Queensland

// Gesine Berger (Germany) – Electrical Fitter Apprentice

// Katarzyna Kepa (Poland) – PHD student at Aust. Institute for Bioengineering

We enjoyed a pseudo picnic as the rain drove us inside, but we all had an amazing time celebrating International Women’s Day with some wonderfully inspiring women.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”8607,8610,8611,8612,8613,8614″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1557119024044{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

Time Management Workshop

We had a full house for the time management workshop run by Girl Shaped Flames’ founder Tanya Meessmann. With a background in film production, Tanya is no stranger to meeting deadlines while juggling multiple balls in the air all at once, making her a time management guru!

The eagerness with which the information was received was indicative of the challenges girls are facing these days around managing their time and commitments, and the overwhelm that can come with not having effective time management strategies. It was indeed exciting to arm them with useful and productive tools for them to get a handle on their time.[/vc_column_text][mk_image src=”https://girlshapedflames.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/sixpivot_logo_landscape_800px-8bit.png” image_size=”full” link=”https://girlshapedflames.com/camp-courage” align=”center”][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”8615,8616,8617,8618,8619,8620,8621″ img_size=”full”][mk_divider style=”thin_solid”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1557518005495{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

RACQ & Sun Super Women In Leadership Event

This March, six lucky Girl Shaped Flames were invited to attend the first event of the combined RACQ and Sun Super Women In Leadership Series. Held at the stunning State Library rooftop venue, we were treated to hearing from two incredible guest speakers: impact entrepreneur Yasmin Grigaliunas, and leadership expert Kylie Sprott.

The girls got exclusive access to an amazing event where they had opportunities to network with other women from a variety of industries as well as hear firsthand the professional journeys of these two amazing speakers.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”8622,8623,8624″ img_size=”full”][mk_divider style=”thin_solid”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1557518105827{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]It takes a tribe to pull an experience like this together, so we’d like to thank:

THE EXTRAORDINARY WOMEN! As listed above, as well as MC and FUEL Founder Tanya Meessmann for their time, efforts and invaluable knowledge shared across all of the events.

THE VOLUNTEERS! Steph, Laura, Lucy & Heidi who worked tirelessly to provide a friendly, calm and supportive environment for the girls throughout.
