What a fantastic program for young girls, bringing female role models to the forefront and giving access to them so they are able to learn and be inspired!
As a mum with a teenage daughter, I was delighted to hear of the valuable programs being offered to school aged girls by FUEL, Girl Shaped Flames. As an executive leader, I am 100% supportive of programs that will develop young women through practical, hands-on learning and mentoring, particularly in the areas of leadership, communication and innovative thinking.
During the camp your daughter will develop six key areas of Courage through workshops, interactive activities and individual projects.

This is the courage most people think of first. It involves developing physical strength, resiliency, and awareness.
Explore your willingness to engage with challenging ideas, to question your thinking, even at the risk of making mistakes.
Understanding social influences, and the perceived risk of social embarrassment or exclusion, unpopularity or rejection.
Doing the right thing, particularly when risks involve opposition or the disapproval of others including ethics and integrity.
Open up to feeling the full spectrum of positive emotions, at the risk of encountering the negative ones.
Explore questions and opinions about purpose, meaning and faith and participate in goal-setting to apply your new-found Courage!
CONNECT WITH STRONG, POSITIVE FEMALE ROLE MODELS
Founder of FUEL Girl Shaped Flames, internationally recognised Communications Expert and award-winning Film Producer, Tanya is one of the CAMP LEADERS and will also be running the INTELLECTUAL COURAGE sessions for both camps.
Award-winning Hollywood Stunt Artist (Thor, Avengers, XMen), Survival Expert & Author of ‘Girls’ Own Survival Guide’, Ky is a CAMP LEADER and will be running the PHYSICAL COURAGE sessions for both camps, including a Workshop focused on ‘Fear’, as well as a Self-defence skills workshop.
Heralding from the shores of Britain, Laura Gervais is a Talent Expert with a zest for (calculated) risk-taking adventure: successfully circumnavigating the world with her partner financed solely by cleverly negotiated contra deals and volunteering roles. Frequently Asked Questions
Nope! Not at all – rest assured the ‘physical courage’ section is being covered by Ky Furneaux, and although she’s an award-winning Hollywood Stunt Artist, she’ll be covering this aspect of Courage via her ‘Fear’ workshop (looking at mental, physical and emotional fear) as well as a very calm (!) Self-defence class.
Aside from that some beautiful walks around the stunning Ivorys Rock landscape is as ‘physical’ as it’s going to get!
Absolutely. We’ll do all we can to make sure the girls are super-clear on what each experience entails, and reassure them the benefit of participating! But at the end of the day if they want to sit something out and just watch (or take a mental breather) then that’s a-ok too.
The camp is approximately 45 mins by car from Brisbane City Centre. A Bus Transfer will be provided for all participants too and from the camp venue.
Air conditioned charter bus will transport all participants too and from the camp venue. Buses will be chaperoned by camp volunteer staff in both directions.
Being Camp Courage, we believe it’s important to experience a sense of adventure throughout, so sleeping in traditional camping tents is a must in our books! However these are a generous step up from you usual cramped, deflated air-matress sleeping arrangements.
Instead accommodation is in twin-share luxury, waterproof, 2-person tents with spring-matresses and linen all provided (though when camping in July you might want to bring an extra sleeping bag/blanket!)
Absolutely – all food is provided across Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner (plus the odd sneaky after-dinner treat!) and is prepared on-site by own own personal camp chef. No more iceberg lettuce salads and fridge-cold sandwiches!
We’re able to cater for (most) dietary requests, so just make a note on your booking form.
While this is Camp Courage, we’re not going to be abseiling off cliffs or paddling rapids. However Ky will me running a couple of movement sessions, so just pack appropriately for the weather, for sitting on the ground at times (e.g. skirts can get tricky when you’re out and about!) and definitely closed walking shoes.
Remember, it’s going to be July and while we’re blessed in QLD with warm winters, you’ll still want to bring something to rug up around the camp fire.
Camp Courage is just for teen girls in grades 7-12 to attend – parents get to sit this one out and await your awesome stories and vigorous conversation upon your return! There will be no less that 6 x Volunteer Leaders on site at all times, along with additional Extraordinary Women interacting along the way.
All volunteers and workshop leaders have current Blue Cards.
Tanya Meessmann (FUEL Company Director) and Ky Furneaux are the two key Camp Leaders who will be on site for the full duration of both camps, and your best points of contact during the camp.
For any queries in the lead up to the camp, contact Tanya via [email protected]
Tickets are not refundable, however you are more than welcome to sell your ticket on to a friend (girl in Grade 7-12) and let us know of the new attendees details.
Yes, we have full Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurances in place, and all volunteers and workshop leaders have current Blue Cards.
